SHIT SON!

So Hiba Ganta, my sister and the other half of this blog has left me for greener pastures. Quite literally. She has moved to Montreal while I am in the plastic city/desert called Dubai and she has left the Raizuli blog for her own blog, Can You See The Mark. Whatevs. Just kidding we all know I’ll miss her. But the good news is she’s just a mouse click away (soon to be catering to a bunch of old French speaking Montrealians).

This is a new era—the blog will be getting a facelift. You will also soon learn what the Raizuli has been up to and where ze business is headed. Some of you already know, but for those that don’t it will all make sense soon. Lando, the guy who makes it fashionable to frown, wear sexy headpieces and just be a regular bad-ass. You could watch all of his videos and be massively entertained for the entire duration of the video. Eye-rollingly hipster to the point where’s it’s not. And not one fuck was given during the shoot of this video.

Ok, covers are usually slowed down acoustic version of these songs in their original glory. But we’ll give it a pass for Martin because she makes the Raizuli feel loved.

Her beautiful, ethereal, nymph like sensibilities draw you in and just psych you out with their vibrancy and child-like freedom - don’t we need more of that? Trainspotting by All We Are

We inherently find Bon Iver, Florence and the Machine, Feist and Mumford & Sons very heartfelt because underneath the layers of hip hop, metal and punk, we are folksy farmers. I mean seriously, most of our civilized ancestors became farmers! Folk is in our blood - and so is caffeine, heroin or cocaine: depending on your lifestyle. Musically, we’re on this non-organic binge of electronic synths and the like which is why a band like All We Are is so encompassing of what we inherently like.

Beautiful video, compelling lyrics, All We Are are due to release their EP The Hunt TOMORROW which is excellent news. But we have located some of the other tracks from said EP namely, Cardhouse, Red Sky and Satellite

How excited is Raizuli?

Phonte of Little Brother/Foreign Exchange is going to be in Dubai this Thursday reppin with the Deep Crates Cartel! Phonte is supporting the Do Over crowd including Aloe Blacc, Cosmobaker, Rich Medina and King Britt, and decided to do a special sumthin sumthin with the Deep Crates Cartel. This weekend is going to be crazy both with Phonte and The Do Over happening. As you do, Dubai.

Frankie Rose is what's up.

Frankie Rose , the former drummer for Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls and Crystal Stilts has released her second solo album, Interstellar and is one of the Raizuli’s favorite albums of the month. We believe you will love it and here’s why. It is a wonderfully mastered album, and sonically pitch perfect. She has moved far away from the garage band sound of her former bands and gives us a lush, synth blanket of sound in which to put some headphones on and get lost in. Her voice itself works as a multilayered poly-frankie-synth if you will.

No, it’s not the overly enthusiastic Panda Bear harmonies, nor is it Dirty Projectors-polyrhythm-all-over-you-face harmonies. It’s guitar/synth pop in it’s purest unadulterated form. The album has wonderful contrast between the dreamy and pound-on-the-steering-wheel-with-enthusiasm tracks. The opening track, “Interstellar” is a perfect example of this contrast rolled into one song and is a perfect introduction to what you can expect in the tracks which follow.
